Thursday’s Poll: How Much Longer Should The Simpsons Stay on the Air?

by

Simpsons_6.jpgThis idea came to me from several venues. After I started writing for this site and started reading viewer comments and especially after reading what the critics were saying, I realized that there are quite a few people out there that believe that the Simpsons have taken a creative dive ever since season 10. They believe the show has changed too much from what made it good. During our last poll where we decided who the top ten characters were, a comment was made that the Simpsons feel the need to slip in political debate more than the public would like. I happen to agree with this. I don’t watch the Simpsons to engage in a political debate or to be reminded constantly of what CNN just told me. But being satirical and critical has always been the way for the writers.
What’s changed then? It’s hard to tell, I mean it’s been 18 long seasons and one can lose sight of what the Simpsons were like in the beginning. So today’s poll will now ask a very important question. How much longer should the Simpsons stay on the air? After 18 seasons, you start to wonder just how much longer they can keep this up. Well, I want to know what you think. Vote below for only one option. I will allow voting until midnight on Friday and I’ll post the results on Saturday. Also, I would like to see a lot of comments; you know a discussion on why you voted the way you did.

Why wait till the end of this season? Why not cancel it now? I never understood the attraction to the Simpsons. I never found that cartoon to be funny.

And I thought it had already been canceled years ago, until someone told me it was still on the air. It’s tired, it’s old, it’s washed up.

Now the Family Guy I like, that is actually funny.

  2. Richard Says:

I agree with Mike, though I disagree about the show not being funny. The humor is a lot drier than Family Guy, which is a different kind of humor.

I have a season 5 DVD of the Simpsons and I watch it regularly. Though after the 20th time it’s not that funny anymore, but definitely the first few times around, it’s pretty funny. The best seasons for me are around 3-9.

Anyway the show’s been going downhill for a while. It reminds me of the old sports star who continues to play even though he’s not great anymore. Instead they become pitiful to watch, yet I still watch occasionally.

I have to say I thought the show started diving after season 7 and hit rock bottom around 12….I still watch it though.

I think this season and last were better than they have been in the past few years.

I think when South Park and eventually Family guy came onto the scene, the Simpsons dummed down the show a little.
