Simpsons at Universal Florida
One can tell how far pop-culture currency has come and gone by visiting theme parks, especially the really big ones owned by large corporations like Disney or Universal Studios. Sometimes, the rides themselves are independently thought up, created, and built, like Pirates of the Caribbean. The ride existed before Johnny Depp dressed up like Captain Jack Sparrow and proceeded to help make a movie franchise earn millions upon millions of dollars. Most times, it’s the other way around. A movie or a television show gets so big, so larger than life that the ride is created as a way to cash in. That certainly has worked for Disney and a lot of their characters.
Yet, movies come and go, and sometimes, what used to be a proven franchise can ultimately fade. That’s what happened to the Back to the Future attraction at Universal Studios in Florida. So, that space is now going to be recycled, and the indications are that a new Simpsons ride will be taking its place. Most of the details are still largely unreported, but there are still indications that a Springfield themed ride will be created. One such thing is this: Universal, according to the Los Angeles Times, has opened up a gift store patterned off of Kwik-E Mart. Over the summer, a lot of 7-11’s remodeled as part as the Movie’s marking campaign. That occurred all over the country, but the change was temporary. Still, Kwik-E Mart’s reemergence at Universal indicates that something bigger is also on the horizon.
